Safety

Safety has been a part of the Polestar DNA since the beginning. These protective genes are evident in Polestar 4, safeguarding all occupants with cutting-edge driver assistance, preventative, and impact protection systems.

Radar, cameras, and sensors

The Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) uses one mid-range radar, 11 exterior cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors to monitor the car’s surroundings. The system instantly evaluates potential safety issues, ready to issue warnings and intervene if necessary.

Rear-view HD camera

A roof-mounted camera provides continuous rearward vision while its specially designed casing protects against water and grime.

Rear visibility

With a high resolution display of 1480 x 320 pixels, the rearview mirror shows more than what can be seen through a rear window. Along with the wider field of view, visibility in the dark and in rainy conditions is also vastly improved.

Designed to stay clean

The housing of the roof-mounted camera is designed to direct airflow and keep water and grime away from the lenses, ensuring an unobstructed view at all times.

2-way mirror

Using the tab on the underside of the rearview mirror can toggle between a live feed from behind the vehicle or a view of the rear passengers.

Dashcam

The Dashcam recording app functions separately from ADAS and captures the road ahead while driving. It films and saves footage when activated via the centre display.

Intelligent lighting

Enhancing visibility in all driving conditions, the adaptive lighting technology of Polestar 4 inspires confidence while advancing the level of safety for the drive.

Pixel LED headlights with Adaptive High Beam

Using 32 individually controlled Pixel LEDs in each lamp unit, the Pixel LED headlights constantly adapt their beam to the surrounding traffic and light. They can shade out multiple areas in front of the car, ensuring maximum visibility without dazzling other drivers.

Available as an upgrade.

Active High Beam

Polestar 4 includes Active High Beam technology as standard, using camera sensors in the windshield to identify the headlights of approaching vehicles and the taillights of cars ahead. Once detected, the headlights automatically switch from high beam to low beam.

Ambient adaptation

The headlights can automatically adjust the spread of their beam according to the amount of ambient light. In brighter environments, the beam will become wider to improve the visibility of other road users coming from the side, such as pedestrians and cyclists.

Home Safe Lights

The Home Safe Lights allow the car's main headlights to stay on to improve illumination outside your home. The length of time can be set via the centre display.

Parking assistance

The four designated parking cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors assist in navigating in and out of parking spots. Visual and audible warnings help the driver to avoid obstacles.

360º and 3D view

Polestar 4’s surround view technology allows for better manoeuvring in tight spaces. Using the front- and rear-view cameras and both door mirror cameras, the system shows a bird’s-eye or an interactive 3D view of the car on the centre display, with the option to select a specific angle.

Cross Traffic Alert with brake support

When reversing out of a driveway, parking space, or around a corner, Cross Traffic Alert warns about approaching cars, cyclists, and pedestrians. If the driver continues to reverse, Polestar 4 automatically applies the brakes if there’s risk of a collision.

Driver assistance

Safe travels and smooth driving go hand in hand. Driver assistance functions provide a sense of security without compromising the authentic driving experience.

Pilot Assist

Pilot Assist works together with Adaptive Cruise Control, monitoring the distance to the vehicle in front and proximity to lane markings. Supporting the driver at speeds of up to 130 km/h, the hands-on system makes gentle steering adjustments to keep Polestar 4 centred in the driving lane.

Available as an upgrade.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Allow Polestar 4 to help maintain a safe following distance. Adaptive Cruise Control adjusts the car’s speed according to the vehicle ahead.

Lane Keeping Aid

Lane Keeping Aid helps to keep the car from unintentionally veering into other lanes. Active between 60 and 200 km/h, it will automatically correct the course of the car with small steering adjustments, and sound a warning if those adjustments aren't enough.

Oncoming Lane Mitigation

To avoid crossing a lane marking and heading into the path of an oncoming vehicle, Oncoming Lane Mitigation alerts the driver with audible and visible warnings. It also helps to steer the car back into its lane.

Blind Spot Information System

The Blind Spot Information System detects vehicles that are about to pass and flashes a warning light in the frameless mirrors. If the driver continues to switch lanes, the steer assist function guides Polestar 4 back into the lane it was in.

Preventive safety

With its array of sensory equipment, Polestar 4 continuously assesses its surroundings and driver behaviour, ready to warn and intervene to prevent accidents.

Front and rear collision avoidance

Like all Polestar cars, Polestar 4 is equipped with front and rear collision warning systems. They help to stop the car if needed and activate hazard warning lights to catch the attention of the oncoming or trailing vehicle’s driver.

Driver Monitoring System

The Driver Monitoring System (DMS) tracks the driver’s eye and head movements to identify any signs of distraction or fatigue. The system promptly issues audible and visual warnings when needed without storing or sharing any images.

Exit assist

Polestar 4 warns against exiting when objects such as pedestrians, bicycles, and other vehicles approach from the rear. An LED indicator will blink on the frameless mirror closest to the detected motion, and an audible warning is made if any doors are opened.

Protective safety

The passenger compartment is constructed using ultra-high-strength steel to protect occupants from the impact of an accident. In the event of a collision, sensors trigger the frontal, side, and inner side airbags, providing protection and reducing the risk of injury to all occupants.

A total of seven airbags are deployed in the event of a collision.

Battery safety

A steel and aluminium frame surrounds the battery pack to reduce the risk of damage in the event of a collision. To further enhance safety, Polestar 4 also incorporates other protective features, lowering the chance of objects heading for the battery, if the car is hit at an angle.

Electronic battery protection

The instant Polestar 4 detects that the car has been in a collision, its advanced safety technology begins to take action. The battery pack's high-voltage system is automatically disconnected from the rest of the car, significantly reducing the risk of damage to the circuitry.

Direct assistance

Two buttons on the overhead console make direct calls in case of a breakdown or an accident. The Connect button reaches Polestar Assistance for events like a flat battery or a puncture. The SOS button is intended for emergency situations such as accidents. In case of a severe accident, Polestar 4 automatically calls for help.
